Connect an AI assistant to Lineupp
You can connect an AI assistant to Lineupp and ask it to help manage your team. There are no special commands to learn. Ask for what you need in the same words you would use with an assistant coach.
For example:
- "Move Thursday practice to 6:00 PM and notify the families."
- "Add Maya Chen, number 8, and invite her mom as her guardian."
- "Build a competitive lineup for Saturday. Ava is out."
- "Who has not answered the lunch poll yet?"
- "Create volunteer spots for field setup and scorekeeping."
- "Compare our last five games with the five before them."
Your assistant uses the information already in Lineupp. It follows your Lineupp permissions and asks for confirmation before sensitive actions.
Before you connect
You need:
- A Lineupp account.
- An AI assistant that supports remote MCP connections.
- Permission to view or manage the team information you want the assistant to use.
MCP is the connection method used by the AI assistant. You do not need to understand how it works to use it.
Lineupp server address
When your AI assistant asks for a server URL, use:
https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp
You do not need to create or copy an API key.
Connect Claude
- Open Settings in Claude.
- Open Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Paste
https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp. - Continue to Lineupp when Claude opens the sign-in page.
- Sign in to Lineupp and review the requested access.
- Approve the connection.
After connecting, start by asking:
What Lineupp teams can I access?
Claude should return the teams connected to your Lineupp account.
Connect ChatGPT
Custom connectors may require developer mode in your ChatGPT account.
- Open Settings in ChatGPT.
- Open Connectors and turn on developer mode if ChatGPT asks for it.
- Choose Create.
- Paste
https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp. - Continue to Lineupp when ChatGPT opens the sign-in page.
- Sign in to Lineupp and review the requested access.
- Approve the connection.
After connecting, ask:
List my Lineupp teams and tell me what you can manage.
Connect Grokbot
Add Lineupp from a Grokbot conversation. The connection is then available to every Bot on your account.
-
Open Grokbot.
-
Send this message:
Add this MCP server: https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp
-
Confirm the server address when Grokbot asks.
-
Continue to Lineupp when Grokbot opens the sign-in page.
-
Sign in to Lineupp and review the requested access.
-
Approve the connection.
After connecting, start a new message and ask:
What Lineupp teams can I access?
Connect Cursor, VS Code, or another MCP app
Add a remote MCP server named lineupp with this URL:
{
"mcpServers": {
"lineupp": {
"url": "https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp"
}
}
}
The exact location of this setting depends on the app. Look for MCP, Connected apps, or Tools in the app's settings.
When the app opens Lineupp in your browser, sign in and approve the requested access.
Connect Claude Code
Run this command once:
claude mcp add --transport http lineupp https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp
Claude Code will open the Lineupp sign-in and approval flow when it needs to connect.
Connect Hermes
Run this command once:
hermes mcp add --url https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp --auth oauth lineupp
Hermes opens the Lineupp sign-in page. Sign in and approve the requested access. If the browser does not open, use the sign-in link Hermes prints in the terminal.
Choose what the assistant may access
Lineupp shows the requested permissions before you approve the connection. These permissions are grouped by the kind of work the assistant can do, such as:
- View or manage schedules
- View or manage rosters
- Read team and player statistics
- Manage polls and volunteer requests
- Manage lessons, drills, plays, documents, and handbook entries
- Manage staff, parents, and guardians
- View or change team settings
- Create a standalone team
Only approve access you are comfortable giving to that AI app.
The connection does not bypass your normal Lineupp role. If your Lineupp account cannot edit a team's schedule, the assistant cannot edit it for you. A parent cannot use an assistant to open private team information that the parent cannot normally see.
What you can ask it to do
Schedule changes
Try:
Saturday's game moved to 2:00 PM at Ridgeview. Set arrival for 1:00 PM and notify everyone.
The assistant can find the matching event, explain the proposed change, update the schedule, and send the usual Lineupp notification.
Roster and guardian updates
Try:
Add Maya Chen to the Wildcats. Her number is 8, and her guardian email is parent@example.com.
Every player in Lineupp requires a guardian. The assistant will ask for any missing guardian information before it can add the player.
Lineups and defense
Try:
Suggest a batting order for tonight. Ava is unavailable, and nobody should sit two innings in a row.
The assistant can use roster availability, statistics, the depth chart, and team rotation rules. You can ask it to explain the suggestion, check for conflicts, and save the lineup after you review it.
Polls and volunteers
Try:
Who has not answered the tournament lunch poll?
Or:
Create two field setup spots and one scorekeeper spot for Sunday's game.
The assistant can create requests, check responses, assign eligible team members, and send reminders after confirmation.
Coaching material
Try:
Create a 15-minute slap-defense drill and add it to a lesson for our middle infielders.
The assistant can manage lessons, drills, plays, text documents, and team handbook entries. Direct file and video uploads still happen inside Lineupp.
Team performance
Try:
How has our contact rate changed over the last five games?
The assistant can summarize team totals, player game logs, game results, player comparisons, and recent trends using the statistics stored in Lineupp.
Create a standalone team
Try:
Create a 12U team called River City Comets in the Denver timezone.
The assistant can create a standalone team after you confirm the details. Club seasons and league registration programs are not created through this tool.
Confirming important actions
Some requests pause before Lineupp makes the change. The assistant will show what it plans to do and ask you to confirm.
Confirmation is required for actions that deserve extra care, including:
- Creating a team
- Sending reminders
- Assigning volunteers
- Removing people or content
- Disabling operational features
- Changes that clear active game clocks
- Deleting a tournament that still contains games
Read the proposed action before answering yes. If you change the request, the old confirmation cannot be reused for the new action.
Disconnect an AI app
You can remove access at any time.
- Open Lineupp.
- Go to Settings.
- Open AI assistants.
- Find the connected app.
- Choose Disconnect.
The app's Lineupp access stops after disconnection.
If the connection does not work
The sign-in page does not open
Remove the Lineupp connector from the AI app, add it again, and confirm that the server address is exactly:
https://mcp.lineupp.app/mcp
The assistant cannot see a team
Make sure the same Lineupp account can open that team in the Lineupp dashboard. Then ask the assistant to list your teams again.
The assistant can read but cannot make changes
The connection may only have viewing permission, or your team role may not allow the requested change. Disconnect and reconnect the app if you want to approve additional permissions.
A confirmation expired
Ask the assistant to prepare the action again. It will provide a new confirmation request with the latest team information.
